FECAVA Newsletter – June 2022

1. Juli 2022

Dear Colleagues,

Delegates at the 27th FECAVA EuroCongress in Prague were in for a real treat with two of the internationally most renowned lecturers in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia presenting the FECAVA Symposium.
Polly Taylor and Paulo Steagall had traveled halfway around the world to introduce their European colleagues to State-of-the-Art concepts of their mutual field of expertise and to officially launch the FECAVA factsheets on Basic Principles in Anesthesia and Analgesia, which can now be downloaded for FREE at fecava.org

Due to the enormous hospitality of our Czech colleagues and due to a very generous donation from BSAVA and several other national organizationsover 70 colleagues from war-torn Ukraine were not only able to attend the FECAVA EuroCongress for free, but they also had their accommodation in Prague provided for free. For these (predominantly female) colleagues, it was a bitter-sweet experience where the joy of meeting with their friends from Ukraine was mixed with a lot of sadness that their own congress, which had been scheduled for the previous weekend in Lviv, couldn’t go ahead. To make matters worse, a lot of their male colleagues were missing as they were not allowed to leave the country, and there were many stories of destroyed personal and professional lives. Let us hope that in a year’s time, our friends of USAVA will be able to invite us once again to their congress in their own country.

Another highlight of the FECAVA EuroCongress in Prague was theinvitation of ten veterinary students from vet schools from all over Europe as part of the FECAVA IVC Evidensia Student Travel Scholarship, which is now funded in its second year by IVC Evidensia. The students not only enjoyed free access to all lectures, but they also received a generous contribution towards their travel- and accommodation expenses. A huge “Thank you!” to our sponsor IVC Evidensia for making this possible!

If you are a veterinary student at a European veterinary university, stay tuned for next year’s FECAVA IVC Evidensia Student Travel Scholarship, which will be organized by FECAVA in cooperation with IVSA.

Following the pandemic, international conferences are becoming once again hugely popular and if you missed the opportunity to meet up with like-minded colleagues from all over Europe in Prague this year, then make already a note in your diary for 27-29th September 2023 when we once again will join forces with WSAVA for a combined European and World Small Animal Veterinary Congress in Lisbon, Portugal.

In the meantime, I hope that you will enjoy this newsletter.

With kind regards to you all
