FECAVA Newsletter – October 2022

12. November 2022

Hi all

Monday 7th to 11th November was Stress Awareness week

Stress is a feeling of being under pressure which is unique to each and every one of us and can come from different aspects of our life.

Everyone experiences stress at some time or other. It helps to be able to identify when this is in yourself and have some coping mechanisms you know work for you to help alleviate that stress – whether it’s going for a walk, playing a sport, or spending time with your pet.

Some pressure or feeling out of your comfort zone for a short period of time, can be okay but out of control stress can be detrimental to your health.

As well as identifying when we are stressed, it helps to take a moment each day to look after ourselves, to try and stop the build-up of anxiety.

It doesn’t have to be time consuming and if we start to try and do it each day – it becomes a habit – a good habit, to help.

Here are a couple of suggestions to try:

  • At the end of the day, why not write down three things that went well.
  • Or, when you’re making a cup of tea, look out the window and focus on what you see – try not to think of your worries or what you need to do…empty your mind for a few minutes.
  • Or, take a deep breath and relax your shoulders – you probably don’t even realise how tense you’ve been.

In the infographics below and on the FECAVA webpage you’ll find some other suggestions for dealing with stress.
